Please Pause ("we," "us," or "our") operates the Please Pause mobile application and website at pleasepause.app (collectively, the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our Service.

Data We Collect

Local Data (Free & Pro)

The following data is stored locally on your device and is not transmitted to our servers unless you are a Pro subscriber with sync enabled:

  • Reflections and prompt responses you write
  • Your app list and contact list configuration
  • Theme and appearance preferences
  • Daily priorities

Synced Data (Pro Subscribers)

If you subscribe to Please Pause Pro, your prompt responses may be synced to our servers to enable features such as cross-device access and history. This synced data includes:

  • Prompt text and your written responses
  • Timestamps and associated app names
  • A pseudonymous subscriber identifier

Account & Billing Data

We do not directly process payments. Subscriptions are handled by Apple (App Store) and RevenueCat. These services may collect:

  • Your Apple ID and purchase history (managed by Apple)
  • Anonymous subscription status and transaction identifiers (managed by RevenueCat)

Automatically Collected Data

Our website is served through Cloudflare, which may collect standard web analytics data such as IP address, browser type, and page views. We do not use cookies for tracking or advertising.

How We Use Your Data

  • To provide, maintain, and improve the Service
  • To sync your data across devices (Pro subscribers)
  • To process subscriptions and verify entitlements
  • To respond to support requests
  • To generate anonymized, aggregated insights (see below)

Anonymized & Aggregated Data

We may create anonymized, de-identified, or aggregated data from information collected through the Service. Anonymized data cannot reasonably be used to identify you.

We reserve the right to use, sell, license, distribute, and otherwise commercially exploit anonymized and aggregated data for any lawful purpose, including but not limited to:

  • Artificial intelligence and machine learning model training
  • Academic and commercial research
  • Product analytics and benchmarking
  • Licensing to third parties

This data will never include your name, email, Apple ID, or any information that could directly identify you.

Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

Data Retention & Deletion

Local data remains on your device until you delete the app or clear its data. We have no access to locally stored data.

Synced data (Pro) is retained on our servers while your subscription is active. If you cancel your Pro subscription, synced data is retained for 30 days and then permanently deleted from our servers. Your local copy is unaffected.

Anonymized data that has already been de-identified and aggregated is retained indefinitely and is not subject to deletion requests, as it cannot be linked back to you.

Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your personal data
  • Object to or restrict processing of your data
  • Data portability (receive your data in a structured format)
  • Withdraw consent at any time
  • Opt out of the sale of personal information (California residents — CCPA)

Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the effective date. Your continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
